A rose in bloom.

Enchanted Rosewater

If you’re in the northern hemisphere, June is the warm, sun-soaked gateway to summer. It’s also the height of Rose season.

The sweet, sometimes citrus, sometimes rich-as-chocolate scent of roses fills my garden like incense filling a room and flashes of brilliant jewel-toned blooms are everywhere. Of course this is the perfect inspiration for a quick and magical Rose recipe.

Enchanted Rosewater is simple to make and can be stored in the fridge for up to two weeks. Use it to spray your face and hair, spritz it around the room, wash water-safe crystals in it, or leave it on your altar as an offering. There are many ways you can use it!

You’ll need:

About two cups of rose petals; fresh is best, but dried will also do. Roses from your own garden or a friend’s are recommended since store-bought flowers have often been chemically treated.

About two cups of filtered water.

A piece of Rose Quartz (or other water-safe crystal of your choice).

A saucepan

A sieve

A funnel

A clean spray bottle or jar

Put the water and rose petals in the saucepan and bring the water to a boil. Turn down the heat and simmer for about 15 minutes, or until you see the colour leaving the rose petals. Remove from heat and allow it to cool. Pour through the sieve and funnel into the spray bottle or jar. Add the crystal of your choice.

Return the discarded petals to the earth with gratitude via compost pile or green bin.

That’s it! You now have a sweet-smelling spray to spread the loving energy of Rose and Rose Quartz however you choose to use it. Have a blessed Rose season!
